PoolDoseCalc.com does one job carefully: it converts a water-test result into an exact chemical dose for your pool's volume. We maintain dosing pages for 10 core pool chemicals and 16 plain-English care guides โ€” written to keep you out of the pool store's guesswork aisle, not to sell you anything.

The site is independent โ€” no affiliation with any chemical brand or pool company โ€” and is supported by advertising.

Where the numbers come from

Our doses are the standard industry figures used on product labels and professional dosing charts, normalized to 10,000 gallons and scaled linearly to your volume. Pool volume is calculated with the standard multipliers (7.5 for rectangles, 5.9 for round pools, 6.7 for ovals). Target ranges โ€” chlorine 1โ€“3 ppm, pH 7.4โ€“7.6, alkalinity 80โ€“120, CYA 30โ€“50, calcium 200โ€“400 โ€” follow broadly accepted industry guidance.

Every dose is an estimate, and the site says so everywhere: product strengths vary, pH chemistry is non-linear, and no calculator sees your actual water. That's why each page repeats the same rule โ€” add ยฝโ€“โ…” of the calculated dose, circulate, retest, then top up.

The safety lines we never soften

  • Never mix pool chemicals with each other โ€” especially any chlorine product with acid, or cal-hypo with trichlor.
  • Always add acid to water, never water to acid.
  • Pre-dissolve granular products for vinyl and fiberglass pools.
  • Store chemicals apart, cool, dry and sealed.

When a dose and a safety rule conflict with something a product label says, follow the label โ€” it's written for the exact concentration in the bottle.
